# Get contact details

> Look up a candidate's email for $1.50, or add an email or phone number yourself.

Profiles in Staffer's candidate database don't include emails or phone numbers. People who apply give you their email. For everyone else, you look up an email or add contact details yourself.

## Request contact info

On a candidate's profile panel, click **Request contact info**. Staffer uses the LinkedIn URL on their profile to look for a work or personal email with an outside data provider. It looks up one candidate at a time.

* If there's no LinkedIn URL on file at all, nothing happens and you're not charged.
* Otherwise, it usually costs \$1.50 in credits, whether or not an email comes back. If the data provider doesn't recognize the profile at all, you're not charged.
* Any emails it finds are saved to that candidate and shared across every job they're on in your workspace, not only this one.
* It only ever looks up email. Phone numbers are never looked up automatically.
* Clicking it again runs the lookup again and charges again.

## Add an email or phone yourself

On the profile panel, click **+ Add** next to **Email** or **Phone** and type it in. Phone numbers are always added this way: there's no automated lookup for phone.

## The recipient picker when you message someone

When you compose a message to a candidate, **Select channel** shows every email saved for them, grouped by type, with a **Primary** badge on the preferred one. If none are saved yet, it reads **No saved emails yet.**, with a **+ Add email** option to type one in on the spot.

## Contacted and consent indicators

The candidate's header shows two status icons. You can't click them.

* **Not contacted** / **Contacted** shows whether anyone has reached this candidate. A message sent from Staffer counts, and so does a reply from them. You can also choose **Mark as contacted** in the **Candidate actions** menu when you reached them another way, such as by phone. It sends nothing. **Undo mark as contacted** reverses it, as long as no message has been sent since.
* **No consent** / **Consent · this job** / **Consent · workspace** / **Consent · future roles** / **Consent expired** shows whether the candidate has agreed to you keeping their data, and for what. The candidate gives consent when they apply or in their portal. You can't set it. A sourced candidate who hasn't opened their application link yet shows **No consent**. That's normal. **Consent expired** means their consent has lapsed. Ask them to renew it through their application link, or your [retention rules](/admin/retention) may flag them.

## Who can reveal contact info

Requesting contact info and adding an email or phone by hand both need the member role or higher in the workspace. Viewers and reviewers can't do either.

## Common questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does Request contact info always find an email?">
    No. It can find nothing and still cost \$1.50. You're not charged when the profile has no LinkedIn URL, or when the data provider doesn't recognize the profile.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I look up a phone number the same way?">
    No. Phone numbers are always added by hand, using **+ Add** on the profile panel.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why does a candidate show 'No consent' right after I promote them?">
    They haven't been through the consent step on their own apply or portal flow yet. It's normal for a newly sourced candidate and isn't something you need to fix.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="If I click Request contact info twice, do I pay twice?">
    Yes. Each click runs the lookup again and charges again.
