# Editing and rescoring

> How editing a job's brief works, and when candidate match scores actually update.

The brief tab is a live editor. Change a hard field or a criterion there, or through chat, and the change saves right away. There's no separate save step and no draft state to publish.

## What editing does not do

Changing criteria does not retroactively rescore candidates already in your pipeline. A candidate scored against last week's criteria keeps that score until something specifically triggers a new one.

## What triggers a new score

A candidate's match score updates automatically when they:

* Apply directly to the job
* Complete a screening step
* Finish an interview

You can also trigger a fresh score for one candidate yourself, from their **Match** tab in the candidate view.

  If you've changed criteria significantly and want your existing shortlist reranked against them, rescore the candidates you care about individually from their Match tab.
