# Group jobs into projects

> Projects group related jobs under one plan, with a status, a lead, a team and dates, and show how many of their jobs are open and filled.

A project groups related jobs under one plan, such as a new office or a team build-out. It shows how many of its jobs are open and how many are filled. **Projects** sits in the **Workspace** group of the sidebar.

## Create a project

**1. Open Projects**

Click **Projects** in the sidebar, then **New project**.

**2. Name it**

Type a **Name** and, if you like, a **Description**.

**3. Create it**

Click **Create project**. The project opens on its **Overview** tab with the status **Draft**.

Creating a project doesn't create jobs, contact anyone or use credits.

## The Overview tab

Click the project's name to rename it. **Details** holds:

| Field | What you set |
| - | - |
| **Status** | **Draft**, **Planned**, **In progress**, **Completed** or **Cancelled**. You set it by hand. |
| **Lead** | One person from your workspace. |
| **Members** | People from your workspace who work on the project. |
| **Team** | One of your workspace's [teams](/companies/teams.md). |
| **Start date** and **Target date** | When the plan starts and when you want it done. |

**Description** below is free text for the plan's scope and what success looks like.

**Lead** and **Members** are informational only. They don't grant or restrict access. Everyone in your workspace with the right role can see and work on every project.

## Add jobs to a project

On the **Roles** tab, click **+** (**Add role**):

* **Create new role** opens **Add a role**. Type a **Role title**, choose whether it starts as **Planned** or **Open**, and click **Add role**. The new job opens on its **Brief** tab. See [Job statuses](#job-statuses).
* **Add existing role** lets you search your workspace's jobs and pick one.

You can also put a job in a project from the job itself: open its **Brief** tab and set **Project** in **Details**.

A job belongs to one project at a time. Adding a job that's already in another project moves it.

The **Roles** tab lists the project's jobs with their **Function**, **Engagement**, **Location**, **Candidates** and **Status**, and you can search and filter them by status. Each row's **…** menu has **Open role**, **Copy ID** and **Remove from project**. Removing a job from a project only unlinks it. The job, its candidates and its listing stay as they are.

## Job statuses

Every job has a status, shown on the **Roles** page, in the job's header and in **Details** on its **Brief** tab. Change it from **Status** in **Details**.

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Draft** | Still being written. |
| **Planned** | A job you've committed to but aren't hiring for yet. |
| **Qualifying** | Live, collecting candidates to qualify for later. A candidate's **Move to stage…** menu offers **Qualified** but no **Offer** or **Hired**. |
| **Open** | Live and hiring. |
| **Closed** | Done. See [Close, reopen or delete a job](/companies/close-reopen-delete.md). |

Only **Qualifying** and **Open** jobs are live. A **Draft** or **Planned** job can't take candidates, run a search or publish its listing. You can still write its brief and draft its listing. A job you start from the agent chat starts as **Open**.

Picking **Closed** opens the **Close position** dialog. Moving a job out of **Closed** puts its listing back to an unpublished draft. Moving a job between the other statuses doesn't touch its listing or its candidates.

## The Projects page

The **Projects** page lists every project in the workspace. Search with the search icon, filter by **Status**, **Lead** or **Team**, and use **Display** to sort and choose columns:

| Column | Shows |
| - | - |
| **Team** | The project's team |
| **Roles** | How many jobs are in the project |
| **Open** | How many of them have the status **Open**. **Qualifying** jobs aren't counted. |
| **Filled** | How many jobs have hired everyone they need, out of all the project's jobs. A job is filled when its hires reach its **Openings** on the brief. |
| **Start date**, **Target date**, **Status**, **Lead** | What you set on the project's Overview |

Each row's **…** menu has **Open project**, **Copy ID** and **Delete project**.

## Who can do what

| Action | Who |
| - | - |
| See projects | Everyone in the workspace |
| Create a project, edit it, add or remove jobs | Members, admins and owners |
| Delete a project | Admins and owners |

## Common questions

> **Does deleting a project delete its jobs?**
>
> No. Its jobs are only detached from it. They keep their candidates, listings and status.

> **Does the project status change when all its jobs close?**
>
> No. The project's status only changes when you change it. Job statuses and the project status are separate.

> **Can one job be in two projects?**
>
> No. A job belongs to one project at a time. Adding it to another project moves it there.

> **[Create a job](/companies/create-a-job.md)**
>
> Start a job from a description, or add one by title.

> **[Write the brief](/companies/brief-criteria.md)**
>
> Status, project, openings and every other detail on the brief.
