Every application has one message thread with the company. Open the Messages tab on your application to read it, or start it yourself if nobody’s written to you yet. Messages in the sidebar collects every conversation you have with hiring teams in one inbox, with an unread count. A thread opens at the latest message.

Reading and replying

Messages show newest at the bottom. Type your reply in the box underneath and click Send, or press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). You can format your reply with bold, italic, bullet lists and links.

One thread, however you reply

Replying by email works the same as replying in Staffer. Reply to the email you got, and your answer lands in the same conversation. Use whichever is easier. The recruiter sees it in one place either way.

No attachments

You can’t attach a file to a message, in Staffer or by email. If a step in the process asks you for a document, that’s a separate upload, not a message. See Screening steps.

A note on AI

A recruiter might use Staffer’s AI to help write a reply. Either way, the message is sent by the company, in their name.

Notifications

Messages from a recruiter arrive by email. If a recruiter writes to you inside Staffer, you still get an email with a link straight back to the conversation. The bell at the top of the sidebar, and the full Notifications page, show updates on your applications too. See Track your applications.

Common questions

Yes. Open your application’s Messages tab and write to them.
Use whichever is easier. Both go to the same conversation.
