Use notes to record what you learn about a candidate, for example on a call. Staffer reads them as evidence the next time it scores the candidate.

Add a note

On the candidate’s Notes tab, type into the box, What did you learn? What’s next?, and click Add note, or press ⌘Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows). You need the member role or higher in the workspace. Viewers and reviewers can’t add notes here.

What happens to a note

  • At the next rescore, Staffer reads your notes as facts about the candidate. A note that says they described 6 years of Kubernetes work on a call can move that criterion’s score. A note that says they seemed great doesn’t give it much to use. See When scores change.
  • It appears on the Activity tab with everything else that has happened with this candidate. See The candidate view.
  • It stays inside your workspace unless you turn on Your notes when you create a share link. The candidate never sees it.

Delete a note

Open a note’s … menu and click Delete note. You can only delete your own notes. You can’t edit a note: delete it and add a new one. You can’t @mention teammates in notes.

Notes that aren’t typed here

The Notes tab also shows notes that came from elsewhere:
  • A reviewer’s note from a process step, a review, an interview, or a task, labeled with that step’s title.
  • A note left by someone on a share link, labeled Shared link. Staffer doesn’t use these when it scores. Only notes from your own team count as evidence.

Notes vs. the brief’s Notes

This tab is about one candidate. The brief has its own Notes field, which tells the agent about the job as a whole. Brief notes never affect scores. See Write the brief.

Common questions

No. Only the person who wrote a note can delete it.
Only if you turn on Your notes on a share link. Then anyone with that link can read them. The candidate never sees them.
