You can connect your own AI assistant to a Staffer workspace and review jobs, candidates and your process without leaving it. This is in beta. This is separate from the agent, which lives inside Staffer. A connected assistant is the Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor you already use, reading from and working in Staffer for you.

Which assistants work

  • Claude
  • ChatGPT
  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • VS Code with GitHub Copilot
  • Gemini CLI
Click MCP at the bottom of the sidebar, or go to Settings → Account → Connected apps, then click Connect an assistant. It shows the server URL to paste, https://app.staffer.com/api/mcp, and the steps for each assistant. Staffer connects through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard these assistants use for connectors. Staffer isn’t listed in the Claude or ChatGPT directories yet, so you add it as a custom connector. On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner may need to add the connector first. In ChatGPT, you may need to turn on developer mode, depending on your plan.

Connect an assistant

1

Open the guide

Click Connect an assistant, pick your assistant and follow its steps. Each one ends on a Staffer page that opens in your browser.
2

Pick a workspace and an access level

On that page, choose the Workspace the assistant can use. It can always read jobs, candidates and searches. Turn on Also make changes to let it shortlist and move candidates and edit jobs. Then click Connect. The assistant only works in the workspace you picked.
3

Ask it something

Ask about your jobs and candidates the way you’d ask a colleague. Every answer links straight back to the right page in Staffer, so you can check it there.

What it can do

What the assistant can do follows your role in Staffer, and Staffer checks it on every request. A viewer who connects with read-and-write access still can’t change anything a viewer can’t change in the app. See Roles and permissions. Staffer also gives the assistant ready-made prompts for common jobs:
  • A weekly review of your jobs and candidates
  • Reviewing a job
  • Preparing for an interview
  • Shortlisting
  • Drafting outreach
Drafted outreach stays a draft. The assistant never sends it.

What still needs your approval

The assistant can’t do these on its own, even with Also make changes on:
  • Move a candidate to a different stage
  • Send a message
  • Close a job
  • Create or send a share link
  • Publish a listing
  • Delete anything, such as a note, a step or a job
For each one, it sends you to a Staffer page titled with the assistant’s name and “wants to do this”. The page says exactly what will happen, in which workspace. Click Approve or Decline. An approval covers that one action, once, and runs out after 10 minutes. The assistant suggests the action, and you decide whether it happens.

Disconnect an assistant

Go to Settings → Account → Connected apps. Each assistant shows its workspace, whether it can make changes, and when it was connected and last used. Click Disconnect next to it. The assistant loses access from its next request.

The Staffer API

The actions the agent and connected assistants use are also available as a public API, so your own integrations and scripts can build on Staffer directly.
  • It covers jobs, process steps, listings, searches, share links, applications, candidate profiles, the talent pool, segments, workspace settings, your own profile and calendar, analytics, billing and compliance.
  • Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1. What an integration can do follows the signed-in person’s role, the same as in the app.
  • A full OpenAPI 3.1 description lets you generate client code automatically.
  • Retries are safe. Repeating a create or a send with the same key never creates a second record or sends a second email.

Common questions

No. Staffer checks your role on every request, whatever access level you picked when you connected.
No. Sending a message needs your approval on a Staffer page, one message at a time. Outreach it drafts is never sent from the assistant.
No. It only works in the one workspace you picked when you connected.
It isn’t listed there yet. Add it as a custom connector, following the Connect an assistant steps in Settings → Account → Connected apps.
